COMMUNITY FOR OPPORTUNITY | 2014 - 2016
Community is a stacking side chair designed for use in drop-in centres. Community is not so much the design of a chair as it is the design of a process.
The chair is a medium density stacking chair with a wood shell and steel base. The design was driven by 2 main factors: firstly use in drop in centres, where for many, the drop-in is their living room; and secondly to be made by clients of drop-in centres.
This required a warm chair, a chair that is comfortable and inviting while at the same time durable, stackable and well priced. It also required a chair that is easy to assemble and impossible to assemble incorrectly.
Through a partnership with Street Soccer Canada the social enterprise, Community for Opportunity was born and these chairs are available for purchase.
We are very grateful to our partners, firstly Parcel who have articulated a clear identity for this project, and also to Seatply and Bernardo Metal Products for their support in manufacturing the shell and the frame.
