Biophilic Design

Bringing the outside in and the inside out.

Biophilic design aims to forge a connection between the occupants of built environments and the natural environment. This can be done in a variety of ways ranging from the inclusion of plants in an office to creating outdoor working spaces.

Why Biophilia?

Biophilia is a growing trend in design and has been shown to improve the quality of spaces by creating an environment that promotes well-being.

The use of biophilic design elements in the office can improve morale, boost productivity and help to relieve stress - all plus’s in today’s fast paced work environment.

Taking Advantage of Biophilic Design

Biophilic design is often broken down into a number of concise concepts or patterns that allow us as designers to explore a variety of pathways through which to incorporate biophilia into our work. The idea of creating a refuge - a place to withdraw for a quiet moment to oneself - allowed us to take an experience and create product concepts to facilitate that experience in the work place environment.

Planters

Bringing plants into the office is not a new idea. What the B_planters project aims to do is to bring a wide range of variability for how plants are integrated into a workplace with as few pieces as possible.

2 forms generate all the combinations shown. With the addition of an upholstered pad, they also convert to seat for casual gatherings in the greenery.
